Shoot for Only the Best: Hunting in Teton Valley, Idaho
Game hunting in Teton Valley, eastern Idaho is second to none. Where else can
you have a shot at mountain lions, black bears, deer, elk, quail, pheasant,
and antelope? You nearly have to travel to Alaska to find a Great Outdoors
as great and populated as you would hunting in Teton Valley.
Eastern Idaho hunting has such benefits for the obvious reason that animals
abound in these wildernesses. But there are also other solid reasons that the
region makes for some of the best hunting in the world. First, Big Sky
country gets its name for a reason: it is a wide open expanse of thousands of
acres. Bumping into too many other hunters then is not a problem. Plus,
two-thirds of all this land is public. Licenses are readily available over
the counter, too.

Put all of these factors together, and you have in general one of the most
enriching experiences when you go hunting in Teton Valley. But as the saying
goes, the Devil is in the details. In the case of eastern Idaho, the Devil
offers a lot of great hunting, as well.
Grouse hunting. You can't find this experience in many other places besides
the Big Hole Mountains. The locals consider it to be the best in all the
land, and up until recently, they kept it a secret. But now all visitors can
find out how to take a short jaunt into the mountains and into the canyons
there. Bring your hound. And watch as your pup points into the thickest of
covers, where a grouse hides from your prying eyes.
Duck hunting. For fowl of another feather, head to Teton Valley. Try out one
of the private blinds located at such great hunting spots as the Teton Valley
Lodge, or head into the sloughs yourself to find your fowl.
Elk hunting. Along the Belle Fourche River near Jackson Hole, you can set
your sights for bigger, hairier game: elk. Way atop the Rocky Mountains,
some 13,000 feet in the sky, you can find Idaho hunting like none other.
Bow hunting. For an authentic old-fashioned hunting experience, put your
shotgun down and pick up your bow and arrow. Archery hunting in Teton Valley
is best for elk, the antelope, and the whitetail deer that
proliferate in the wilderness in eastern Idaho.

No matter what kind of hunting you plan to do, a little prepping will ensure
you that you'll get the hunting experience that you used to only dream about.
One of the main things to consider is how you will get all of your equipment
there. Talk with your airline representative to see how you are allowed to
ship firearms and ammo. Here are a few general tips:
- Unload all weapons and store them in locked cases.
- Pack your ammunition in a safe container like a factory box, and declare
that as well.
- Leave at home flammable items, especially fuel, since they aren't allowed
in carry-on or checked luggage.
- Check knives and other cutting instruments should be checked, not brought
into the cabin.
In these days of ultra-high security, you could actually face criminal
charges if you fail to comply with your airline's rules. That wouldn't be a
good start to your Idaho hunting trip!
