It's Easy to Buy Into the Wonder of Idaho Ski Resorts
Skiing in Idaho is some of the best natural snow skiing in the world. What's more, throughout
Idaho are hundreds of acres of open public land crisscrossed by quiet trails that you can
have all to yourself. But the big attraction, of course, are the ski resorts - and the
fantastic real estate options that lie in between the moguls and the lifts.
Teton Valley is possibly the best-known and most developed ski area in the state. With
this world-class skiing goes world-class real-estate opportunities. The Teton Valley,
only a couple dozen miles west of Jackson Hole, is a whole different world. Where Jackson
Hole is big, loud, and developed, Teton Valley retains its Western roots, and is full of
promise. The three main towns in the valley - Driggs, Victor, and Tetonia - have remained
largely undiscovered by the real-estate hunters.
Some of the treasures waiting to be had, care of one of the leading real-estate companies
in the area, TetonValleyProperties.com, are in Teton Springs. You can expect single family
homes with spacious, contemporary floor plans, sunny patios, master bedrooms and baths, and
a few other bathrooms to spare. Though you're looking at a million plus for this cowboy
luxury, consider that this is the ground floor you're getting in on.
The town of Tetonia, on the other hand, has a reputation as being where the local folks
live. That means it's a town of reasonably priced, single-family dwellings that each have
their own unique charm. They can be old-fashioned and simple, or intriguing and spread out.
For newer developments and condos, head back toward Driggs and Victor.
Vacation rentals can also give you a chance to appreciate the area before buying into it.
Teton Mountain Lodge is a ski-in, ski-out, full-service resort with spa, swimming pools,
health clubs, and restaurant. For an old-school Western resort, try Sun Valley Lodge,
serving skiers and other vacationers since 1936. Have your choice of a condo or a cottage,
with shopping, food, and fun all nearby.
And skiing, of course, is nearby as well. Grand Targhee is just over the Teton range, but
it is well worth the trip. It is already one of the hottest ski resorts in all the country.
Few other places in the world can boast 500 inches of annual snow and 3000 acres of trails
and slopes.
For the newest lifts and trails in Idaho, try Tamarack Resort. The resort's inaugural ski
season was just 2004-2005, but what an inaugural season it was. With nine aerial lifts and
five surface lifts servicing more than 600 acres of trails and 1,100 acres of free terrain,
Tamarack promises to be one of the hottest ski resorts in the region in the near future.
Big Sky is an "Idaho ski resorts" that actually isn't in Idaho. It's located in Montana
between Bozeman and West Yellowstone - but it's worth the drive. Set in a national forest,
the resort may compete for the crown as top ski resort with its annual snowfall of 400
inches, 85 miles of runs and truly isolated adventurous feel.
