Search for real estate in Jackson Hole.
South of the Jackson city limits, you'll find most of the locals of Jackson Hole. They're
hiding out down there, hoping no one else discovers their secret oasis. For it's down in the
valley to the south where you'll find some of the best views of the Grand Tetons to one side,
and the Munger Mountains and the Game Creek valley area to the other.
Getting to town is convenient here. The road to town has been expanded to a five-lane highway.
And the distances aren't too bad nevertheless. You're looking at no more than five miles from
town for Melody Ranch homes, three from Rafter J, and only one mile for the Cottonwood and
Indian Trails. All of these developments are also near the bike path, and are family friendly
with their parks and green development.
This is not the area to move to, though, if you want the funky artsy-western mix that you'll
find inside the town of Jackson. These are housing developments where the style of each and
every home in the subdivision tend to be the same. The lawns are the same. And the wood
siding on the homes is the same. That being said, we're talking a very comfortable and
luxuriant sameness.
The Rafter J Ranch subdivision is one of the oldest in this area, developed in the 1970s.
Back then, only the workers of nearby ski resorts and stores in downtown Jackson could ever
think of buying property in these parts, so expect a lot of locals in Rafter J. The Melody
Ranch subdivision, on the other hand, is a decade or so newer. It still has its share of
locals, but it is also a big draw for folks looking for a second or vacation home.
South Park Ranches, which by the way isn't named after the famed cartoon television show, is
also an older development in the middle of the South Park Look. For some of the biggest land
parcels down south, check out the Polo Ranches. You can expect plots with three to six acres,
located near the bottom of the Snake River drainage area. The old pine and cottonwood trees
on these lands are worth the price alone.
And last but not least, to be as close to Jackson without actually living within its limits,
try the Dairy Ranch Subdivision. These plots come in 35-acre square parcels and are some of
the oldest in the area. For the newest, and for some of the best golf in these parts, there's
the Three Creek Ranch Golf Subdivision. It's both an exclusive golf club and fishing hole,
located on a pristine 700-acre stretch of land on the Snake River.
