The jet set, the ski bums, and party cruisers all find their way to Jackson Hole, and that's
all fine and good if you enjoy a mix of glitz, glamour, and cowboy boots. But for those
looking for a quiet place to raise a family, or raise a trout out of a cool blue stream,
it's the other side of the Pass that gets the passing grades. The Teton Valley lies only a
couple dozen miles west of Jackson Hole on the other side of the Grand Teton Mountains, but
it's a world of difference - both in ambience and more importantly, in real estate prices!
That's because, as of yet, the Teton Valley and its three towns - Driggs, Victor, and
Tetonia - have remained largely undiscovered by the wealthy real-estate hunters who gobbled
up properties in Wyoming. But that may be fast changing. The word is out. Recently, the
magazine Men's Journal named the country seat, Driggs, to be a Top 10 spot to live for outdoor
fans. Then came a National Geographic article on the Teton Valley.
That means Driggs, and its summer festivals and larger city limits, have drawn in visitors
and home-buyers alike. But Tetonia, just eight miles north of this action and slightly west,
is still a hushed secret.
Nearby Teton Mountain View Lodge, a full-service sporting, adventure, and relaxation resort,
draws in its fair share of tourists. They come looking for the world-famous fishing on the South
Fork and Henry's Fork Rivers. They pack their skis for Grand Targhee Summer and Ski Resort
and Jackson Hole. And they come to explore nearby Yellowstone National Park. But they then
leave.
That leaves Tetonia to the local folks, many who are your typical families and some who are
permanent employees of one of the local resorts. It's a town of single-family dwellings that
speak of comfort and a contenting life fitting of the breathtaking surroundings. For a bit
more splendor and a touch more modernity, real-estate hunters can also explore the many new
developments sprouting in Teton Valley. Many are closer to Driggs, and farther south toward
Victor (which is eight miles south of Driggs), but they offer newer construction with price
tags approaching Jackson Hole figures.
Still, Tetonia offers something for everyone. Whether you're looking for a old-fashioned Main
Street to raise your family at, a chunk of real estate that is sure to appreciate as the
reputation of Jackson Hole spreads west, or just a trout or two - Tetonia can deliver.
