West of the town of Jackson, between it and the famed West Bank, is a whole swath of land
worthy of its own attention. West of Jackson is a hidden treasure trove of horse ranches,
spectacular second homes worthy of being first homes, and private developments that are close
to both town and country. With picturesque names like Indian Springs, Stonecrop, and Skyline
Ranch, these estates are prized real estate.
These properties do not come on the cheap; most property around here brings in its money's
worth. The average single-family home west of town draws in about $2 million, with the highest
property values ranging in the $7 million to $8 million ballpark. Lowest home prices are at
half a million, with your average condo running $300,000.
These aren't the newest developments, but their beauty in part lies in the fact that many
people don't even know they exist. Take the Skyline Ranch. This development built into a
small hill offers some of the best views of the entire Teton Mountain range, with vistas of
Rendezvous Mountain and the nearby ranches. But the area has been developed for years. Very
few lots are empty. The homes that are there are hidden from passers-by on the highway
because it is illegal to build homes on hills or mountains that obstruct others' view.
That equals the ultimate in privacy for those living in those homes. It also means the homes
will not mar the environment, instead blending in and becoming a part of it. For some folks,
that's very important. They moved to these parts because of the setting; they don't want to
ruin it.
In this regard, perhaps two of the finest developments west of Jackson that are a perfect
"part" of their setting are Spring Creek and Amangani. The beauty of these developments is
that they are built high on top of East Gros Ventre Butte. So for owners, you can't get any
better view of the "Hole". But from the valley below, travelers don't even know these homes
exist, they're so well hidden. Plus, both are "resorts", so these homes come fully furnished
and with the utmost in luxury resort amenities.
Closer to Snake River, you have your choice of developments such as the Bar Y, Indian Springs,
and Gros Ventre North. Here you are farther out into the traditional western setting of
Wyoming, where ranches with actual cowboys are still run in a lot of the same ways they were
operated 100 years ago when this areas was first settled.
